If you still don’t believe LG is manufacturing some of the greatest OLED TVs in 2022, consider this: every model with its new Alpha 9 Gen 5 chipset – the LG C2 and LG G2, as well as LG’s 4K and 8K QNED mini-LED TVs – takes Dolby Vision and improves it significantly.
The upgrade is called Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Rendering, and it provides even better images than Dolby Vision – and it will be available on all Dolby Vision material, not only content created for the enhanced version, on LG’s Alpha 9 TVs.
According to LG, the reason it’s limited to the Alpha 9 Gen 5 chipset is due to power: all that picture processing necessitates a powerful CPU capable of handling the computation without sacrificing performance.
LG AND DOLBY HAVE THE VISION THING
Dolby Vision IQ uses a light sensor to detect the light levels in your space, then processes the Dolby Vision metadata in the video you’re watching and adjusts it accordingly – for example, if your room is really bright, it will raise the brightness so you don’t miss any critical detail.
Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Rendering combines that technology with Dolby Vision Precision Detail, which can offer better levels of contrast and detail than conventional Dolby Vision. Because of the combination, you should be able to see a lot more detail in gloomy scenes.
The more I learn about the LG C2 and G2, the more I’m impressed: the Alpha 9 Gen 5 produces excellent image quality and, thanks to LG’s AI Sound Pro processing, it also produces excellent audio. The TV market is quite exciting right now, especially in OLEDs, where we’re increasingly spoiled for choice, and LG is one of the most fascinating companies in terms of its ambition to keep pushing the boundaries of TV technology.
