Phantom, Tecno’s premium sub-brand, is still in its early stages, but it is already planning to launch its first foldable phone at this year’s MWC (which kicks off later this month). The Tecno Phantom V Fold has been leaked several times, including on video.
Now, an insider speaking to GizChina has added some details to what we saw in those leaks. Phantom (and Tecno in general) prefers to develop things in-house, which includes the foldable hinge.
The Phantom V Fold has a “reverse snap structure,” which improves the phone’s structural stability. This is enhanced even further by the use of aerospace-grade materials that are both strong and lightweight.

The source also provided an official-looking image. Three lenses can be seen on the circular camera island, but these are apparently only part of a 5-lens setup (presumably including two selfie cameras). The focal lengths of those lenses, as well as the sensors that power them, are still unknown.
The Phantom V Fold will be powered by the Dimensity 9000+, a boosted version of the 9000 (+5% CPU, +10% GPU), according to Tecno. This chip was most recently seen in the Oppo Find N2 Flip clamshell foldable.
PS. We shared a concept video of the Phantom V Vision, a phone that would combine folding action with a sliding mechanism for a larger internal screen, about a month ago. The V Fold only performs folding. It’s unclear whether the V Vision will ever become a real product, but we might find out more at Tecno’s MWC event.
