The fourth season of Battlefield 2042, which will include the game’s final new Specialist, will be released on February 28 and will include a new map, new weapons and gadgets, and new vault weapons from Battlefield 3 for the game’s Battlefield Portal mode. Developer DICE shows what the new Recon-class Specialist Camila Blasco is capable of and where players will shoot each other up in season 4, titled “Eleventh Hour,” in a gameplay preview video released Friday.
Blasco will be added to the Recon class in Battlefield 2042 season 4, and she will bring the X6 Infiltration Device, which allows teammates to move without alerting motion-based technology, according to DICE. Blasco’s device also prevents hostile device lock-ons, interferes with active spotting technology, and creates communication dead zones in its vicinity until destroyed or deactivated. The X6 can also detect and reveal enemy technology in the vicinity.
She is the game’s final Specialist, but DICE says it will continue to add skins and cosmetics — as well as other content — for a planned season 5.
Season 4 of Flashpoint will feature a new battleground for players. The South African map was a “once-thriving biodiversity hotspot, now an abandoned development complex doomed to failure,” according to DICE. In Flashpoint, expect close-quarters combat, primarily at the power reactor core, as well as weapons and vehicles to support those intimate battle encounters.
New weapons in Battlefield 2042 season 4 include the following:
- Due to its short range, the Super 500 shotgun sidearm is described by DICE as “high risk and high reward” and “perfect for breaching and close quarters combat situations.”
- DICE describes the RM68 assault rifle as versatile and equipped with built-in silencers.
- the AC9 SMG, a lightweight submachine gun designed for quick fire exchanges, and the RPT-31 LMG, whose slow rate of fire is compensated for by fast-traveling, heavy-hitting rounds.
- The SVD and Type 88 LMG from Battlefield 3 are among the new vault weapons for Battlefield Portal.
Through the Battlefield 2042 season 4 battle pass, players can also unlock the CAV-Brawler, a new armoured vehicle with a detection pulse that locates nearby enemy soldiers, and the SPH explosive launcher, whose bombs attach to their target and explode after a short delay.
In a recent patch, DICE reworked Battlefield 2042’s Specialists into more traditional Battlefield-style classes (Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer). DICE says its focus going forwards “is to continue to listen to your feedback and bring design and balance changes to our return to the class system,” with 14 Specialists in total (following Blasco’s release).
