If you are a competitive player who enjoys spamming ranked games in League of Legends, Riot Games has big changes in store for the game mode. The game’s developer disclosed that the amount of LP (League Points) a player receives and loses would shift dramatically beginning with LoL Patch 13.4, which is set to go live on the servers on February 23rd. Riot Games developers Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee and Andrei “Meddler” van Roon explained all the changes and updates in League of Legends in their follow-up developer (dev) blog on February 16th. Meddler, on the other hand, eventually moved to Reddit to discuss the ranked adjustments that were not covered in the video.
Here’s all you need to know about the LoL Patch 13.4 ranked adjustments.
LP Gain/Loss in Ranked Games in League of Legends
Meddler mentioned in a Reddit thread titled “Champions, Lore, Modes, & More | /dev diary” that they missed discussing the League of Legends ranked changes. “One thing we missed from the video that I think would be of interest coming in patch 13.4 is that we’ll be raising LP gains/losses from an average of 15 to an average of 22,” he stated.
Riot Games is finally addressing the disparity between the number of hours a player puts in ranked games and the joy of accumulating LP. League of Legends players get 15 LP each ranked game win on average, and with each game lasting up to 30-40 minutes, one must play and win seven such games (about 4 hours) to rank up. It should be noted that this scenario is extremely optimistic and does not account for losses, queue times, dodges, remakes, or other factors.
“[This modification] should get folks to suitable ranks faster,” Meddler added. We’re making the modification based on feedback, and because we’ll have two seasons in ranked this year instead of just one, it doesn’t seem proper to keep the same tunings.”
“Wonderful, I’ve been playing lesser and lower ranked since the LP changes,” one player said on another Reddit thread analysing the LP reductions in ranked games. I disagree with Riot’s idea of grinding higher ranks to increase player engagement. I’m delighted they’re moving in the right path with the new ranking awards and this adjustment.”
