On Thursday, Bungie made a big announcement that Destiny 2’s Witch Queen expansion would be available for free to all players during the weekend. This is a great opportunity to play one of the best sci-fi shooters ever made. With the upcoming release of the Lightfall expansion on February 28th, there’s no better time to jump back into the game.

Destiny 2 Witch Queen free weekend

    Here’s the schedule:

    Start:

    • February 23 at 9 AM PST (check your local time here).

    End:

    • Xbox: February 26 at 11:59 PM PST (check your local time here).
    • PlayStation, Steam, MS Store, and Epic Games Store: February 27 at 9 AM PST PT (check your local time here).

Destiny 2 is currently at the height of its hype. The Season of the Seraph just ended with one of the most popular missions and cinematic cutscenes of the year, and a new trailer was just released, teasing a huge showdown and some new mysteries in Lightfall next week. Although there are always plenty of excuses not to play Bungie’s loot shooter, the studio is trying to remove one of the barriers by making the normally $40 Witch Queen campaign free on Xbox Series X/S, PS4/PS5, and PC for a limited time.

The Witch Queen is the closest Destiny 2 has ever come to a traditional shooter campaign. The self-contained story is satisfying to play through, and you don’t need to engage much with the rest of the live service loot grind. The levels are set in eerie alien pyramids and giant gothic cathedrals, and the Legendary difficulty option offers a challenging experience that will make you feel like you’re just scraping by.

Bungie has also confirmed that anything you complete and collect during your time with the free version of The Witch Queen will follow you back to the standard free-to-play version of the game. So in theory, you could complete the 6-8 hour campaign this weekend and come out the other side with a decent arsenal, ready to tackle Lightfall (if you’re willing to spend $50 to unlock it).

It is unclear why Xbox players will lose access to the campaign almost a full day earlier than other platforms (Bungie has not responded to a request for comment), but those on PC and PlayStation will be able to play up until the servers go down for maintenance before Lightfall’s launch. If you haven’t played Destiny since the first game was released in 2014, it’s not a problem! The giant white space ball only woke up eight years later, so you haven’t missed much.

Destiny 2 has come a long way since its initial release in 2017. The game has improved significantly, and the Witch Queen expansion is one of the best things that has happened to the game in a long time. The game has seen a huge resurgence in popularity, with the player count increasing significantly in recent months. With the game being free to play, more people than ever are jumping back into the game.

The Witch Queen is an incredibly well-crafted expansion, with an engrossing story, excellent missions, and fantastic rewards. The campaign is set on a new location called Savathun’s Throne World. This new location is an incredible mix of eerie and beautiful environments that are unlike anything else in the game. The story is one of the best things about this expansion. It’s an intricate and exciting narrative that keeps you engaged throughout.

The new expansion has a lot to offer, and it’s not just about the story. There are new weapons and armor sets, as well as new exotics that are sure to excite any Destiny fan. The game has also seen a massive overhaul of its loot system, making it more accessible and rewarding than ever before. This new system has been designed to keep players engaged and motivated to keep playing.

The Witch Queen also introduces a new raid called “The Glassway.” The raid is set in a new location called “The Dreaming City,” which is a beautiful and mysterious location filled with secrets and hidden treasures. The raid is challenging but rewarding, with some of the best gear in the one of the most notable aspects of Destiny 2 is the constant stream of new content that the game receives. It’s not just the large expansions like The Witch Queen and Lightfall, but also the seasonal updates that bring new weapons, gear, and activities to the game. This constant flow of content can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it keeps the game feeling fresh and exciting, and gives players something new to work towards. On the other hand, it can be overwhelming and exhausting, especially for new players who are trying to catch up.

That’s why Bungie’s decision to make The Witch Queen free to access for the weekend is such a smart move. It gives players a chance to dip their toes back into the game without committing to anything long-term. And for those who do decide to stick around, there’s plenty of content to keep them occupied.

The Witch Queen expansion adds a new campaign to the game that focuses on Savathûn, the titular Witch Queen. Savathûn is one of the most enigmatic and intriguing characters in the Destiny universe, and players have been waiting for years to finally confront her. The campaign takes players through a series of missions and quests as they unravel the mysteries surrounding Savathûn and her Hive minions. Along the way, players will face off against new enemies and explore new locations.

One of the standout features of The Witch Queen is its level design. The campaign takes players to a variety of locations, from eerie alien pyramids to giant gothic cathedrals. Each level is intricately designed and full of detail, making the game feel more immersive than ever before. And with the Legendary difficulty option, players can test their skills and see if they have what it takes to overcome the game’s toughest challenges.

Of course, the real draw of Destiny 2 is its loot. The game is all about collecting powerful weapons and gear that help you become stronger and more capable. The Witch Queen expansion adds a ton of new loot to the game, including weapons, armor, and other items. And with the new transmog system, players can customize their appearance and show off their unique style.

But perhaps the most exciting thing about The Witch Queen is what it sets up for the future of the game. The expansion introduces new characters, plot threads, and mysteries that will likely be explored in future updates. And with Lightfall just around the corner, players can expect even more epic battles and thrilling moments in the months to come.

If you’re a lapsed Destiny 2 player, or someone who has never tried the game before, now is the perfect time to jump in. The Witch Queen expansion is free to access for the weekend, giving you a chance to experience one of the best sci-fi shooters around. And with Lightfall on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to dive back into the world of Destiny 2.
